Curriculum

The Secondary Teacher Education Program offered by the Center consists of two major components: Professional Education Courses and Subject-Specialized Courses. The curriculum is designed to cultivate prospective teachers who possess strong educational competence, professional commitment, and disciplinary expertise.

Professional Education Courses

Professional Education Courses are designed to develop teacher candidates’ educational philosophy, professional knowledge, and practical teaching competencies. In accordance with the Ministry of Education regulations, teacher candidates are required to complete a minimum of 26 credits of professional education coursework offered by the Center. The curriculum is organized into three categories:

1. Foundations of Education (Minimum 4 Credits)

These courses provide fundamental knowledge of educational theories and concepts, helping teacher candidates establish a solid understanding of educational principles and develop a strong sense of professional responsibility and commitment to teaching.

2. Educational Methods (Minimum 10 Credits)

These courses focus on curriculum design, instructional strategies, classroom management, student assessment, and guidance practices. Course offerings include Principles of Teaching, Classroom Management, Curriculum Development and Design, Curriculum Integration, Adaptive Instruction, Learning Assessment, Introduction to Special Education, School-Based Curriculum Development, Principles and Practices of Guidance, and Instructional Media and Applications. Teacher candidates are required to complete designated courses in accordance with program requirements.

3. Educational Practice (Minimum 10 Credits)

These courses emphasize the integration of educational theory and classroom practice, fostering professional competence and reflective teaching. Required courses include Subject-Specific Teaching Materials and Methods, Subject-Specific Teaching Practicum, and Vocational Education, Training, and Career Planning. Elective offerings include Special Topics in Educational Issues, Reading Instruction Practices, Reading Development and Instruction, International Education Curriculum Design, Educational Administration, and Educational Action Research.

The above three categories account for a total of 24 credits. Teacher candidates are required to complete additional designated coursework to fulfill the minimum requirement of 26 credits in Professional Education Courses.

Subject-Specialized Courses

Subject-Specialized Courses are designed to strengthen teacher candidates’ disciplinary knowledge and subject-specific teaching competence. Depending on the teaching subject area and Ministry of Education requirements, teacher candidates must complete between 40 and 50 credits of specialized coursework. These courses are offered by the University's academic departments, graduate institutes, and related instructional units to ensure a solid academic foundation and professional expertise in the candidate's teaching field.

Through the integration of Professional Education Courses and Subject-Specialized Courses, teacher candidates develop both educational competence and disciplinary expertise, laying a strong foundation for future careers as secondary school teachers.
